Abstract

Indoor environments where people spend most of their time greatly benefit from aesthetic enhancements such as rich wall colors. However traditional wall painting methods are labor intensive, time consuming, and pose health risks due to the prolonged exposure to paint fumes along with the physical strain. These are common challenges that are faced in the construction industry. In this paper, the design and implementation of PaintBot, a cost effective, automated wall painting robot that enhances safety, reduces labor costs, and improves efficiency is presented. The proposed robot operates autonomously provided the dimensions and color specifications through the operator, initiating painting from an optimal starting point. PaintBot is equipped with actuators and a spray gun, and it maintains a precise distance from the wall to ensure uniform paint application. The resulting system provides a portable, simple, and efficient solution that produces professional quality wall finishes.
