Created by Dr. Inas Y. Mahfouz, the first Arab Learner English Corpus (ALEC) consists of different types of academic essays written by AUK freshman students whose native tongue is Arabic. Students enrolled in the first level freshman writing course are asked to submit their work via a Learning Management System (LMS) namely Moodle; the essays are compiled, normalized, and distributed over four sections depending on their type: narrative, analysis, synthesis, or argumentative.
